I think it's safe to say that at the moment, it's quite difficult to remember all the good in the world. With so many bad things happening lately, it was tough to know what to write about. However, it's my friends birthday today, and that made me remember that there are things to smile about. So, after doing some research, I found plenty of lovely, sweet, funny facts about the world that are sure the help keep the blues away and remember the happy things in life.
1. Penguins Mate For Life
Those adorable animals we all love have become even cuter! Not only do they mate for life, they also propose to each other by offering a pebble. Who knew that penguins were so romantic? There are some penguins out there who only mate for a season, (I think we've all met a few 'penguins' like that), but most of the time they are a monogamous species.
2. Squirrels Can Plant Trees
Often, squirrels bury nuts in the ground and then forget where they have hidden them. This has resulted in an estimated million trees growing around the world. Although there are some squirrels who don't bury their acorns individually, which means that they don't become trees, it's pretty cool how most of the squirrels are looking after our planet, even if they don't know it.
3. Baby Girls Are Honoured In A Village In India
Back to planting trees, a village in India called Piplantri honours baby girls by planting 111 trees every time one is born. Through the years, over 300,000 trees have been planted. The amazing people in India are not only helping to save the world one tree at a time, they are also helping show awareness for beautiful girls everywhere by honouring them with something great.
4. Cuddling Helps Reduce Depression
There is a hormone called cortisol that when released into the brain is linked to and can control depression and anxiety. However, cuddling lowers the amount of cortisol in your body and provides you with dopamine (the happy hormone). So, whenever it is you are able to hug a loved one, know that it is beneficial to both of you, with science backing you up.
5. Seeing Someone Smile Makes You Happy
Obviously, when someone you care about smiles, it makes you happy. However, scientists have discovered that when you see someone smile, it triggers your orbitofrontol cortex which means it makes you feel as if you have been rewarded. It's definitely difficult to cheer up at the moment, but as we take each day as it comes, know that there is still good in the world.
