How To Deal With Stress

Being constantly stressed is a task I have to deal with daily, so if there is anyone out there who is also struggling, here are a few ways I like to try and make myself feel better.

Remain Positive

Let's start today off with one of the most difficult steps! Trust me, staying positive when feeling stressed is not easy and some days it will be impossible, but one of the bravest things you can be in this world is positive. It's easy to be pessimistic and just expect the worst from every situation, but you deserve better than that. Even on one of your darker days, find something you can be happy about, no matter how small it may seem.


Breathe

When I was younger and I was upset, people in my life would tell me to take a deep breath and it would calm me down...it didn't! However, now that I'm a bit older, I've learnt that it's not actually the deep breath that calms you down, it's what comes along with it internally. Use a deep breath to mentally assess the situation you a dealing with and find a calming solution, whatever it may be.


Things You Can't Control

Control over our own lives is a thing that we all want but can never have, at least not fully. There are so many aspects of life that scare us and those things are usually the ones we can't control. It is honestly one of the hardest things to do, because once a thought is in your mind, you can never un-think it. Next time you find yourself worrying about something you can't change, talk to someone, as you will not be alone.


Don't Ignore Stress

Sometimes when I'm feeling particularly stressed, I like to distract myself from the problem. Doing this every once in a while is fine, but stress doesn't always magically disappear as time goes on. Your body will remined you that it is feeling under pressure. Listen to it and fight that feeling head on. Once you work through the problem at hand you will be able to let the stress go and focus on what makes you happy.


Do What You Love

No matter your age, there are always things you are expected to enjoy. Teenagers 'should' want to be with their friends all the time. 20 year olds 'should' want to go clubbing. Why? I don't care if you are 70 years old and want to wear head to toe leopard print every day, if it gets you excited for your day, do it! For most of us, stress is always going to be there, but if you have ways to make yourself feel better, never be ashamed.
